Notes and numbers from KU's 78-66 loss to No. 5 Duke at the Champions Classic inside Madison Square Garden in New York City on Tuesday night.

The loss dropped Kansas to 3-2 overall this season and 2-1 in games played without superstar freshman Darryn Peterson, who sat again on Tuesday night because of a tight hamstring.

• Kansas outscored its opponent in the paint (40-38) for the third consecutive game, and tied a season high for points in the paint with 40 against Duke.
• Kansas outscored Duke in fastbreak points (13-9) and has now outscored its opponent in fastbreak points for the third time this season.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Senior Tre White scored a season high 22 points on 7-13 shooting in Tuesday’s game against Duke, giving him his first 20-plus point game of the season, and 12th of his career. White has now recorded four consecutive games of 10 or more points. White also recorded a season high in steals with two, and blocks with one. White grabbed a season high nine rebounds and a season high three offensive rebounds.
• White is just the second player in the Bill Self era to have at least 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists against Duke, joining Jalen Wilson, who had 25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists against the Blue Devils in 2022.
• Sophomore Flory Bidunga finished the game with 14 points on 7-10 shooting, scoring in double figures for the fourth time this season in five games. After grabbing 6 rebounds, Bidunga has now recorded five or more rebounds in all five of Kansas’ games to start the year.
• Senior Melvin Council Jr. scored a season high 15 points on 6-15 shooting giving him his 58th career game of 10 or more points. Council also recorded six assists in Tuesday’s contest giving him his fourth consecutive game with five or more assists, and his 28th game of his career. Council also recorded two blocks for the first time this season, and only the seventh time in his career where he has recorded two or more blocks in a game. Council made his first three of the season in the second half, and finished the game going 1-4 from the three point line.
• Redshirt-freshman Bryson Tiller grabbed six rebounds against Duke, and has now grabbed over five rebounds for the third consecutive game. Tiller finished the contest with six points and one assist in his second career start.
• Freshman Kohl Rosario recorded a season high two steals against Duke, while also recording four points, two rebounds, and one assist.
• Senior Jayden Dawson finished the game with five points on 2-6 shooting, marking the fourth time this season that Dawson has recorded five or more points in a game.
• Freshman Paul Mbiya grabbed three rebounds on Tuesday, and has now recorded three or more rebounds in three consecutive games.
