Ames, Iowa — Notes and numbers from Saturday's 38-14 KU football loss at Iowa State at Jack Trice Stadium.

The loss dropped Kansas to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in Big 12 play, setting up a do-or-die, gotta-have-it game next weekend at home against Utah.
Kickoff for the regular season finale is slated for 11 a.m. on Friday at The Booth.

Team Notes
• Kansas moved to 616-692-58 all-time, including 27-34 under head coach Lance Leipold. Leipold’s career record is now 173-73 overall, which ranks seventh among active FBS head coaches.
• Kansas still owns the all-time series lead against Iowa State to 53-46-6.
• Kansas is 12-14 in Big 12 Conference play since 2023.

Offensive Notes
• Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels completed 13-of-23 passing for 154 yards and one interception. Daniels’ 154 passing yards pushed him over 9,000 career passing yards, becoming the ninth active FBS player to do so.
• Jalon Daniels is the 10th player in Big 12 Conference history to have 9,000 passing yards, at least 60 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns in his career. Daniels is joined by Baker Mayfield, Colt McCoy, Sam Ehlinger, Patrick Mahomes, Trevone Boykin, Robert Griffin III, Charlie Brewer and Max Dugan to do so.
• Daniels’ 154 passing yards puts him at 2,344 passing yards this season, which is the ninth most in single season school history.
• Daniels’ 13 completions also moved him up to sixth in single season school history.
• Kansas running back Leshon Williams found the endzone first for the Jayhawks, scoring on a 4-yard touchdown. The touchdown was his 7th of the season and 10th of his career.
• Kansas redshirt sophomore quarterback Cole Ballard connected with redshirt senior tight end Boden Groen in the third quarter on a 21-yard touchdown pass, marking Groen’s 5th touchdown reception and 8th of his career. It was also Ballard’s third career touchdown pass and first of the season. It was Ballard’s first since throwing a touchdown vs. Lindenwood on Aug. 29, 2024.
Defensive Notes
• Kansas redshirt junior linebacker Trey Lathan recorded a career-high-tying 13 tackles on Saturday, marking his second double-digit tackle effort of the season and the fourth of his career. Lathan’s other game in which he had 13 tackles came against Missouri on Sept. 6, 2025.
• Redshirt freshman defensive end Dak Brinkley recorded 2.0 tackles-for-loss on Saturday, marking a new career high. Brinkley recorded 1.5 TFL’s last game at Arizona.
• Kansas redshirt senior Justice Finkley recorded his first solo sack of the season in the fourth quarter, marking his fourth sack of his career.
• Redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Blake Herold matched his career high with seven tackles, including 0.5 TFL and one pass breakup.
Special Teams Notes
• Kansas kicker Laith Marjan was 2-of-2 on extra points on Saturday and is now 38-of-38 on the season on extra points. Marjan’s 38 extra points moved him into a tie for eighth in Kansas single season history.
• Marjan’s 38 consecutive extra points move him into a tie for fourth in Kansas single season school history for consecutive field goals made.
